I could hear the horrifying screams of my stepmom haunting me as I sprint out the door. I glance around only to find the blue spruce trees covering the baby blue sky. As I continued to walk, it started to fade into a black with nothing but the stars lighting up the way. Deepening into the woods, a black shadow towers over me. I look around but it seems to have disappeared. Then suddenly I  hear a rustling coming from the trees. I looked up to see a hawk staring at me with its beady eyes, but it was glowing green. It flew at me with its razor-sharp talons. Then everything went black. I woke up, but I didn’t feel right. I looked at my feet but instead, I saw talons. I thought I was just imagining things. I looked in a puddle of water and saw my reflection. I had become half hawk half woman. My talons were razor sharp. I  suddenly climbed up a tree not being able to control what I was doing. Then I jumped. Soaring through the sky, I started to fill with joy. Suddenly I could see an enormous tree up ahead, but I didn’t know how to stop. BOOM! It’s been six years since I started having these nightmares and they never stopped. I thought they were just dreams but it turns out I was wrong.

5..4..3..2..1 ” Hi, I’m Kate Jones with your daily news. Today there has been another attack done by the villain we all know, Nighthawk. Who is this deadly creature, and who will stop it? Thank you and goodnight.” I collapse on the couch exhausted from another busy day at work, but I guess that’s what you get when you’re a reporter. I suddenly hear a knock at the door. I open the door to see my best friend Lindsey, standing there. ” I brought Chinese food!” We talked for hours while munching on our egg rolls. We watched a movie and then she headed back to her apartment, but the dream I had that night was one I will never forget.

I closed my eyes and suddenly I was running. Well, I shouldn’t say running, I was chasing someone. I could only see them from behind, but I could tell it was a woman. I suddenly flew into the air. I finally caught up to her and started flying towards her with my talons stuck out in front of me. I didn’t know what I was doing and I couldn’t stop it. Next thing I knew, she was lying on the ground with blood gushing out, but then I saw her face. With scratches and a bruise, I saw Lindsey lying there. I tried to help her, but I couldn’t control what I was doing. I came up to her and she told me her last words in a weak whisper “why are you doing this?” Then I stuck my talons into her chest and she let out a gasp. Then my eyes opened. Phew, just another dream, I think. The next morning when I was getting ready for work, I got a call. “Hello?” It was Lindsey’s mom. She told me that Lindsey had been murdered the night before by what the police think was Nighthawk. My knees started to tremble and I collapsed to the ground. The person I had known my whole life had suddenly been murdered the same night I had a dream about murdering her.

“We’re on in 3..2..1,  Hi I’m Kate Jones and we have yet another report on this so-called Nighthawk roaming the city of Brooklyn. Last night it murdered 22-year-old Lindsey Peters while she was heading to her apartment downtown. The police found what look like talon marks in her chest and cuts on her face. I’m Kate Jones and that’s your daily news.” I hurried home that day and started researching Nighthawk. Why did I keep having these dreams and why was one of them about killing my best friend? I found all the articles and reports I could and started trying to connect the dots. I had been in my house for two days fitting all the pieces into the puzzle. Then suddenly it hit me. Could I be Nighthawk?
