SGWL 2026 Short Story Contest Rules
The SGWL Short Story competition is open to all United States citizens.
Multiple entries are welcome and may be either fiction or non-fiction.
The entry must be formatted in MS Word and in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced.
The maximum word count is 5,000.
The author’s name must not be on the entry but only on the email when sent as an attachment.
Submit payment below. The entry fee for SGWL members is $25 per entry. The entry fee for non-members is $45 per entry.

The competition begins on February 15, 2026.
The competition closes at midnight on April 30, 2026.
Prizes:
First place—$500
Second place—$250
Third place—$100
The winning entries will be announced at the SGWL June 4 meeting in Georgetown, Texas, and will also be featured in the Georgetown View newspaper and on the SGWL website.
